I grew up in the age of the 12” single, out on the dance floor on a Saturday night, grooving to the latest releases. I was always fascinated by the process which allowed your favourite tune to become extended, remixed, dubbed and edited, to transform them, most of the time, into something truly magical. As software advancements made it easier for prospective home DJ’s to make their own music on PC’s, the phenomenon of the “Fan Remix” arrived, and it seemed that everyone was making extended remixes, Dub mixes and Edits. Later, as I delved more into the technicalities, I even dabbled in my own remixes, but luckily I’m going to spare you having to listen to them – for now anyway.

”I Prefer The Remix” is a new occasional series in which I turn the spot.ight onto some of my favourite remixes – I’ve included officially released material by David Bowie and Thomas Dolby, alongside “Fan Remixes” of Duran Duran, Tears For Fears, Bat For Lashes, Billy Idol and Madonna, and the whole thing starts with an epic fan edit of Talking Heads “Slippery People”.

Oh,I forgot to mention, each track is preceded by by some vintage movie clips to keep things interesting. Hope you enjoy, and see you next week for vol 2!
